So have we. Then, we woke up to the real world.

Needless to say, Groomobile isn’t perfect. We do, however, work very hard to make it a rewarding place to build a career. Groomobile is small enough to appreciate you, yet large enough to reward you. Let‘s talk about expectations - and then let’s talk about pay and benefits. What do we expect?

  1. Experience - We only interview those who have already groomed over 5,000 pets. None of our existing staff has less then 10 years experience, and over half have been with Groomobile for over 10 years. We value experience and loyalty above all else.
     
  2. Attitude - If you have a bad one, Groomobile would be a terrible place to work. We seek out groomers who can demonstrate a pattern of success. What does that mean? We search for those who have longevity in past grooming positions, who come to work every day, who have leadership skills, and who past employers say nice things about.
     
  3. Personality - Whether we like it or not, we are all salesmen or saleswomen. Successful people are selling themselves all day every day. You could be the greatest groomer in the world, but if you frown and tell the customer, “Here is your dog,“ you won’t achieve what you want to achieve. We want our customers to enjoy the entire experience - not just like the groom.
     
  4. Honesty - We allow our mobile groomers to drive our vehicles home every evening. Could they moonlight? Could they steal customers? Could steal money? Sure - But they never do. Why? Because we don’t hire thieves. If we did, they would all steal. After all, that is what thieves do - they steal. But resisting the temptation to steal is too low a standard. The bar is much higher than that. We do our best to find people who have sufficient character to tell the truth when they don’t have to. They don’t "shade" the truth, nor do they exaggerate the truth. If they hurt a dog or break a machine or dent a van, they own up to it. Our goal is transparency.
     
  5. Productivity - In the final analysis, we can only continue to offer the best pay and benefits in the grooming industry as long as we all remember that we have to groom lots of pets and we have to satisfy lots of customers. We measure production, the same way every other grooming company does. However, we measure customer satisfaction in a way that no other grooming company does. A highly productive groomer who is unable to rebook, and retain, customers at a satisfactory level, is not the kind of groomer we are looking for. We expect high levels of production and high levels of customer satisfaction.

For the groomer who has longed to work on a team with others who possess these characteristics, we provide:

  1. Commission - Groomobile provides a guaranteed income for the first 26 weeks of employment. That may sound too good to be true. We just believe it is the right thing to do. In fact, we think it is unconscionable for anybody to grow their company "on the backs" of new employees. Although no one else offers this kind of guarantee, we have found that it is a small price to pay for the company to recruit and retain great groomers. After all, we are not looking for hundreds of groomers. We just want to hire a few of the best. As soon as a groomer has a solid "book of business" they can choose one, of two, commission plans, depending on their personal needs.
     
  2. Health Insurance - Those who choose to do so can participate in one of the best health, dental, and vision plans available anywhere. It may not be obvious to everyone, but all insurance packages are not created equal. Some employers offer “insurance” that is of very little value. Unfortunately, you can’t know that until you get a $5,000 bill from the hospital for co pays, deductibles and co insurance. Our insurance, as well as all of our payroll functions, are administered by one of the largest, if not the largest, Professional Employer Organizations in the world. We offer stability and integrity - not just fluff. Believe it or not, there are employers who refuse to pay for medical attention and lost time when employees are injured on the job. How many times have you heard of a groomer who, after being bitten, was “kicked to the side of the road” because they were unable to work. That kind of thing will never happen at Groomobile. Likewise, there are employers who do not pay their portion of the Social Security tax, or even withhold income tax from employee’s earnings. We pay Worker’s Compensation tax, Federal and State Unemployment tax, and the employer’s portion of the Social Security tax, as well as every other tax Florida employers are legally obligated to pay.
     
  3. Longevity Rewards - In addition to pay and benefits, one of the reasons why groomers come, and stay, with Groomobile, is that Groomobile rewards longevity. For example, groomers who choose our most popular pay plan receive an automatic annual increase in their commission rate, for the first ten years. They, also, receive one additional day of vacation pay, for each year of service, between five and fifteen years. Everyone gets one week of paid vacation, after the first year of employment. But, we are proud to say, we have several employees who receive over one week, and some who receive up to three weeks of paid vacation, each and every year. To the best of our knowledge, no one rewards longevity like Groomobile.
     
  4. Bonuses - We believe behaviors that are rewarded tend to increase and those that are not, tend to decrease. Therefore, we work hard to catch our employees “doing something right.” We measure, and reward, high levels of production, and soon we will reward high levels of customer service, as well. Excellence deserves additional recognition and compensation.
     
  5. None Of Us Are As Smart As All Of Us - Some employees may believe that they are “called” to oppose everything their employer suggests. Others think the employer/employee relationship is supposed to be adversarial. We believe that we have a better chance of success if we succeed together. Therefore, we have regular company meetings. Our employees have the opportunity to identify and correct problems that adversely affect productivity and/or customer service. Sometimes it takes a little “getting used to,” but taking a critical look at ourselves has enabled us to solve lots of problems before they reach critical proportions. After all, None Of Us Are As Smart As All Of Us.

We are the largest mobile groomer in the eastern United States, and we are one of the largest, locally owned, groomers in Florida. In spite of that, there is very little corporate “stuff” and there are very few rules. Basically, we hire great people and we expect them to do a great job. We are seldom disappointed. Since we have a very close relationship with a mobile grooming van manufacturer (Van Conversions, LLC) we can make room for a new mobile groomer with as little as 2-3 weeks notice. The same is true for salon groomers. We are constantly looking for new talent to help us expand our salon operations. So, whether you prefer salon or mobile, we hope you will consider Groomobile.
